Abstract

This research is a study conducted on news texts that are published on the site Detik.com. This study aims to describe how women are reported in the text preaching female violence in the case of the Hello Kitty Yogyakarta tattoo and to describe the construction of Detikcom in reporting the women’s violence of Hello Kitty tattoo in Yogyakarta. Analysis carried out with a critical paradigm and using the analysis method of Sara Mills's critical discourse. Muted Group Theory and Reality Construction Theory are used as theories that explain the silencing of women in news of violence that is considered normal violence. The results of the study showed that women in this reporting were not only victims but also perpetrators. Then the discourse is still influenced by patriarchal ideology, even though in the news Detikcom tried to avoid it. However, sensational titles and the 'negative connotation' predicate towards women in reporting the Hello Kitty Tattoo are difficult to avoid. Finally, this research is expected to be a reference for Detikcom in writing news about women to be more balanced and gender aware. And for the community to better respect women as victims.
