Abstract

The aim of development in one country is to achieve economic and social welfare. The level of society welfare can be measured in both objective and subjective aspect. The subjective measurement can be seen from the level of individual's happiness, whereas the measurement of individual's happiness itself is through subjective well-being. In this research, we will study about the happiness of people with physical disability in Semarang City. People with physical disability are part of Semarang community who should have equal right as normal people (people without disability). Therefore, this study aims to see the effect of happiness with determinant factors of happiness of people with physical disability in Semarang City. The variables which are used in this study encompasses of happiness as dependent variable; socio-economic variable consists of occupation, income, and education; besides, non-economic variable consists of gender, marital status, health, religiosity; also, public accessibility variable. The data used are primary data in the form of observation, interview, and documentation of 95 respondents of people with physical disability in Semarang City. The method used in this study was Consensus Measure (CnS), which was a method to change the ordinal scale into mathematical form to get the level of happiness. Moreover, the approach used in this study was a censored (Tobit) regression model. The results of this study show that the average of happiness level is 0.6992. Furthermore, the study shows that the variables of income, marital status, health, and religiosity can influence happiness significantly. On the other hand, the variables of occupation, education, gender, and public accessibility do not influence happiness of people with physical disability in Semarang City.
