Thesis: Department of Indonesian Language and Literature, Diponegoro University in Semarang Indonesia. The research about semantic components of the word broken and its synonym is aim to investigate the semantic components of each word to see the similarity and difference between them. The subjects of this research are sentences that use the word broken and its synonym. The research main objectives are to explain morphological process and to analyze the semantic components of the word broken and its synonym. This research consisted of two analyses. The first analysis is aim to investigate the word class of the word broken and its synonym in their lexical and grammatical meaning which were obtained from affixation. The results of this analysis then used to help investigate the semantic components of the word broken and its synonym. The method used in this research is distributional method. The techniques used in this research are delition technique, substitution technique, expansion technique, interruption technique, permutation technique, and paraphrase technique. The result of this research indicated that there are seven words that synonymous with the word broken. The semantic components of each word were described to see the similarity and difference to their meaning. These words then classified into two different semantic fields, semantic field ‘intentional and accidental’ and semantic field ‘accidental’.
