Abstract

Hiking is one of potential tourism activity in Central Java. Hiking trails have been built in areas crossed by mountains that popular for hiking. Mountains in Central Java have variation of attractions due to the different characteristics of each other. High interest in hiking will increase environmental potential damage caused by tourism activities. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence number of individual visits to the hiking sites in Central Java. This research used primary data with questionnaire collection method. Multinomial logistic regression is used to analyze number of individual visits as dependent variable and the eleven independent variables, those are desire for conservation, knowledge about conservation, relaxation needs, physical motivation, landscape value, natural value, natural attractions, tourist facilities, accessibility, travel cost, and other tourism site. The result showed seven variables influence the number of individual visits to mountain tourism sites in Central Java, those are physical motivation, landscape value, natural value, tourist facilities, accessibility, travel cost, and other tourism site. High interest in hiking is influenced by tourist behavior, so that it will potentially increase negative impact due to tourist activities. Therefore, activities in hiking should pay attention to the sustainable ecotourism principles.
