Master Program in Nursing Community Nursing Concentration Department of Nursing Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro University June 2019 ABSTRACT Yessy Pramita Widodo Effects of “My Confident Book” Learning Game on Increasing Self-Confidence in Children with Mental Disabilities xvii + 69 pages + 6 tables + 4 figures + 13 appendixes Children with mental disabilities tend to have low self-confidence and want to communicate only with friends that they already know. Parents of mentally disabled children should have a better understanding and provide the appropriate guidance and learning games to the children. My Confident Book is a learning game which is very suitable for mentally disabled children as it is educative and can be used as a means to emphasize activities related to skills and playing objects. This study aimed to determine the effects of My Confident Book learning game on self-confidence in children with mental disabilities at SLB Negeri Semarang. This study used a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design with a control group. The samples were 30 children each in the intervention group and the control group. The data were collected through observations using the Lauster instrument and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank and Mann-Whitney U tests. The results showed an increase in the mean value of self-confidence in children. Before the intervention of My Confident Book learning game, the mean was 2.13, and after the intervention, the mean increased to 3.20 with p-value = 0.00 <(α = 0.05). This study concluded that My Confident Book learning game gave effects on the increase of self-confidence in children with mental disabilities.
