Hum. “Utang yang Tak Terbayar” is a weekly short story by Danang Cahya Firmansah that was published in Suara Merdeka on April 2, 2017, the short story was about the poverty of Marjo who was in debt with his neighbor, Solihin. Marjo continued to struggle to pay off his debt with all the efforts, but when he only paid off half of his debt Marjo had died. “The Little Match Girl” is a short story created by Hans Christian Andersen, he is an author from Denmark, this short story has been translated into various languages, the short story tells about the struggle of a little girl who sells matches because of orders from her evil father. This study aims to describe the similarities and differences in structure, between the two short stories, to analyze the structure of the two short stories, the authors use structural analysis and than compare the structure between the two short stories, so that the authors can find the similarities and differences in the structure of the two short stories. The results of the analysis of “Utang yang Tak Terbayar” short stories and short stories of “The Little Match Girl” are the similarities between the two short stories specifically themes, points of view, paths (events), and characterizations. Then, the difference is in the character, the setting of time and place, the plot (time criteria), and the description of the character of the main character. The similarities in these two short stories are themes that discuss poverty, equality of viewpoints by using a third person perspective,and the similarities of the event is the death of the main character at the end of the story. The difference in the second short story is the difference in flow. The “Utang Yang tak Terbayar” has an advanced plot, while the Short Story of the “The Little Match Girl” has mixed plot, different backgrounds, namely in the village and in the city, the last is the difference in character or characterization namely a little girl and a farmer.
