Abstract

Latifah, Nur. 2019. "Pregnancy and Birth of the Javanese Community (Abangan and Priyayi) in the Manuscript of the Estri Wawrat (Edited Text with Pragmatic Study)". Thesis. Bachelor Program in Indonesian Department. Faculty of Humanities. Diponegoro University. Supervisor Prof. Dr. Mudjahirin Thohir, M. A., Drs. M. Muzakka, M. Hum. Sarat Estri Wawrat will be abbreviated as SEW, an ancient script containing the theme of indigenous births and pregnancies in the Javanese community. This manuscript is stored in the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (PNRI) Jakarta, with a script code KBG 955. SEW is a Javanese manuscript, written by Moens at Panti Boedaja Yogyakarta in 1937. The researcher emphasizes research on texts that contain salvation during pregnancy and birth. Salvation is the main or elemental ceremony of almost all rites and ceremonies in the Javanese religious system in general. The theory developed in this study is philology and pragmatics, in which it becames the basic set of practices to present editet of script and colaborate the benefits set of pragmatics study. The research methods used include data collection, data analysis and data presentation. Data collection is carried out by literature study and fieldwork. Data analysis is divided into two stages, namely analysis of philology and pragmatics. The data is presented with descriptive methods. The results analysis of the SEW manuscript are (1) salvation is always done because the pregnancy is a transition period and very critical. (2) there are five kinds of salvation in the prijaji community including; madeking, five monthly, seven monthly, procotan, and brokohan. (3) there are three types of salvation in the hybrid community, namely; mitoni, brokohan, and sepasaran. Keywords: manuscript SEW, philology, pragmatics, salvation.
