“PERBANDINGAN KARAKTER TOKOH UTAMA PADA NOVEL DILAN, DIA ADALAH DILANKU TAHUN 1990 KARYA PIDI BAIQ DAN NOVEL DEAR NATHAN KARYA ERISCA FEBRIANI”

Thesis S-1 Indonesian Literature Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University of Semarang. Supervisor Dr. Muh. Abdullah, M.A. and Fajrul Falah, S.Hum., M.Hum. The object of the research are novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990 by Pidi Baiq and novel Dear Nathan by Erisca Febriani. The purpose of this study are to describe (1) structural elements of novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990 by Pidi Baiq; (2) structural elements of novel Dear Nathan by Erisca Febriani; (3) similarities and differences in the structure of the novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990 and novel Dear Nathan; (4) comparison of the main character of novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku and novel Dear Nathan. The research method are comparative method and structural approach. The steps og the research are data source, data analysis techniques, and presentation of the result of analysis. The data source of this research are novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990 by Pidi Baiq published by Mizan Media Utama on 2014 and novel Dear Nathan by Erisca Febriani published by Best Media on 2016. Based on the research that have been done, it can be concluded that the structure of the novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku tahun 1990 and novel Dear Nathan: (1) theme; (2) plot; (3) character; (4) background; (5) author’s perpspective; and (6) message. Judging form the structure, the two novels have similarities and differences. The similarities lies on aspect: (1) theme, the two novels have a theme of romance amidst senior high school students; (2) characterization, have similarities based on the role and function of the characters in the story, and (3) message, have in common to always respect and treat women well. The difference between the two novels lies in the aspect: (1) plot; (2) characterization, namely the characters of the actor; (3) setting; (4) author’s perspective; and (5) message, novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990 teaches that simplicity is the main key to happiness without excessive impression, whereas in novel Dear Nathan is the importance of forgetting and forgiving mistakes in the past.
