Abstract

ABSTRACT Pamularsih, Devi. 2019. “Verbs of Suru and Naru in Japanese Sentences”.Undergraduate Thesis, Japanese Language and Culture Department, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. Thesis advisor Elizabeth Ika Hesti ANR, S.S., M. Hum. This paper discusses about “Verbs of Suru and Naru in Japanese Sentences”. The objectives of this research are to describe the structure and the meaning of Japanese verbs suru and naru. The data being used are obtained from Japanese short story, novel, and sites by using simak and sadap method. Then, to analyze the structure and the meaning of verbs suru and naru, distributional method is applied. Based on data analysis, it was concluded that the verbs suru can be attached to adjectives, nouns, and verbs. Verbs suru has 3 sentence forms with different meanings. The ~ suru form means the change in state of affairs and a decision. The ~you ni suru form means of change that is achieved by certain efforts andchanges in habits. While the form of the ~koto ni suru refers to the meaning of a subjective decision. Then the verbs naru can also be attached to adjectives, nouns, and verbs. Verbs naru has 3 sentence forms with different meanings. The ~naru formmeans a result of state changes, desires, abilities and shows a decision. The ~ you ni naru form states changes in circumstances, abilities, and changes in habits. The ~ koto ni naru form means a joint decision, decisions made by other people are generally people who have authority, and decisive decisions refer to things like plans, schedules, and regulations.
