Abstract
An Overview of the Knowledge and Attitude in Nursing Students at X University about Universal Precautions as Prevention of Nosocomial Infection xv + 62 Pages + 8 Tables + 2 Picture + 15 Attachment ABSTRACT Nosocomial infections occur throughout the world with a high incidence. The incidence in the Southeast Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions is 10% and 11.80%, in the Western Pacific region and Europe at 7.70% and 9%, while in Indonesia it reaches 15.74% far above developed countries which ranges from 4 , 8-15.5%. Infection can be prevented and stopped by universal precautions. Some research on knowledge and attitudes about universal precautions has been carried out on nurses and other medical personnel, but it has never been done to nursing students, so it is necessary to do research on the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students about universal precautions. The purpose of this study was to identify the level of knowledge and attitudes of nursing students about universal precautions for the prevention of nosocomial infections. This research is a quantitative study with a descriptive research design. The sampling technique used is a total sampling technique consisting of 103 nursing students at X University. Data was collected using a questionnaire. Data analysis using univariate analysis methods. The results of research on universal precautions showed a level of good knowledge as much as 79.6% and a level of lack of knowledge as much as 20.4%. Positive attitudes were found to be 65%, and negative attitudes were as much as 35%. The conclusion is that universal precautions of nursing students is mostly in the level of good knowledge and positive attitude so that it needs to be maintained, while for the level of lack of knowledge and negative attitudes it needs to be improved.
