Abstract

Correlation between knowledge and behavior of five moment hand hygiene in nursing student at x university xviii + 70 Pages+ 9 Tables + 6 Pictures + 15 Attachment The number of nosocomial infections continues to increase around 9% or more than 1.4 million inpatients in hospitals all over the world. One effective prevention step to break the chain of transmission infection with five moment hand hygiene. However, there are no studies regarding the knowledge and behavior of five moments hand hygiene among nursing student in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to describe and determine the relationship between knowledge and behavior of the five moments hand hygiene by nursing students. This study was a descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was total sampling with 103 nursing students, X university. The data obtained by using a knowledge questionnaire adopted from Juliana Kartika Dewi and a behavioral questionnaire adopted from Y. Li et al and had passed the validity and reliability test. Analysis of data was done using analysis univariate and bivariate (Chi-square) test. The results of the study showed that the level of knowledge of nursing students in the category was good 55,3%, whereas in the behavior in the category was moderate 72,8%. There is no a connection between knowledge and behavior of five moment hand hygiene (p-value 0,059). The conclusion of this study is that the knowledge of student in good category and behavior of students in moderate category, so that it is necessary to evaluate and increase knowledge about five moment hand hygiene and reinforcing the existing five moments hand hygiene to address the gaps in knowledge and behavior of importance the five moments hand hygiene.
