Abstract

Description Risk of Suicide level in Female inmates in An Indonesia Prison Female inmates risk to suicide due to psychological problems, overcapacity prison and separate with children or family. Research about risk of suicide in female inmates was limited in Indonesia, but research on female inmates had been done in German prison and showed high risk of suicide. The purpose of this study was to describe the risk of suicide level of female inmates a prison in Indonesia. This study was a quantitative research with a descriptive survey and cross-sectional approach. The samples were 185 inmates recruited using proportionate stratified random sampling. The respondent were measured using Suicide Concern for Offenders in Prison Environment (SCOPE) questionnaire. The result showed that 59,5% were not risk and 40,5% have risk of suicid. The suicide risk based on respondents characteristics are 18-40 years old (69,3%), low education level (57,3%), married (56%), not visited by family (32%), more than ten years prison’s punishment (38,7%), prisoners (93,3%) and criminal act in the form of action related to controlled drugs or other psychoactive substances (65,3%). Therefore, it can be concluded that almost a half of female inmates have risk of suicide. Correctional nurses need to pay more attention to psychosocial aspects to decrease risk of suicide level.
