Abstract

Department of Nursing Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro University May, 2019 Adrianus Jeniven Haki Tonbesi Relationship between Cognitive Function and Level of Independence of Daily Life Activities (ADL) in the Elderly at the Nursing Home xvi + 58 pages + 7 tables + 2 images + 13 Attachments ABSTRACT Elderly (elderly) is someone who has reached 60 years and above. Health problems experienced by the elderly are a physical decline in carrying out daily activities. One of the factors that influence the decrease in Activity of Daily Living (ADL) in the elderly is cognitive function. This study aims to determine the relationship between cognitive function and the level of independence of ADL in the elderly in the Nursing Home. This research uses descriptive correlational design with cross-sectional approach. A total of 56 respondents who have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique. Data was taken using the Short Potable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ) questionnaire and the Katz index observation sheet and analyzed using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a value of p = 0,000 (p <0.05), which means that there is a relationship between cognitive function and the level of independence of elderly ADLs in nursing homes. Therefore it is very necessary to get help and cooperation from all parties in providing health services that lead to improved cognitive function and elderly ADLs in nursing homes.
