Abstract

Laskar Pelangi novel by Andrea Hirata and Novel Totto-chan Little Girl in the Window is a best-selling novel in that time. Both novels raise different educational issues. The Laskar Pelangi novel tells the story of Ikal and friends who have economic limitations but will still be passionate about seeking knowledge, while the Totto-chan Novel Little Girl in the Window tells of a child who has a privilege and attends a unique school, the Tomoe School. Behind the problems of education in both novels, there is a true teacher who plays a role in the success of his students. The approach used by the writer to compare the image of a true teacher is a comparative literary approach. Based on the interrelationship of intrinsic elements, namely background, character, the author's flow gets material to compare teacher figures. To compare the teacher characters of the two novels, the writer uses the character depiction method that is by direct and indirect methods. The results of the comparative analysis of teacher images in the Laskar Pelangi Novel with the Novel Totto-chan of the Little Girl in the Window show that there are differences and similarities in teacher characters in both novels, this occurs because of the influencing factors. The factors that influence are culture, gender, education level, social conditions (in the novel), and the setting of the place. However, this does not reduce the image of the true teacher in the two teacher figures. Both of them represent true teachers based on their country of origin. The character or image of the true teacher depicted in the figure of Bu Muslimah and the Principal is very contrary to millennial era teachers who tend to be more concerned with material than educating student characters.
