Abstract

Coastal flood is the flood caused by high tide. Coastal flood often occurs in some regions in Indonesia. One of them is in the city of Semarang. One of the efforts to prevent and reduce the risk of coastal flood is preparedness. Family is one of the stakeholders of preparedness. According to the 2006 LIPI-UNESCO/ISDR, there are five preparedness parameters. They are knowledge and attitudes, emergency planning, policies and guidelines, early warning systems, and resource mobilization. This study has a purpose to describe the household preparedness for coastal flood in Semarang. The research was quantitative descriptive. The sample was chosen by using accidental sampling technique. There were 124 respondents in total. In collecting the data, the researcher used a questionnaire that had been tested by three experts with construct validity of 0.368-0.702 and reliability of 0.735 (reliable). The majority of respondents (84.7%) stated that they were affected by coastal flood. Coastal flood is a serious problem and can have an impact on the family, to reduce the impact families can make preparedness. The results showed that there were still families who considered household preparedness sufficient (37.1%) and poor (8.95%). The majority of respondents (83.1%) had never received preparedness training. The majority of respondents (80.6%) did preparation in dealing with coastal flood, respondents (62.1%) had an early warning system in the environment and (64.5%) had household planning to be more resistant to coastal flooding. Families are expected to be able to attend disaster preparedness training and make emergency preparations.
