Abstract

Health advertisement in printed media is aimed to people touse the offered products. In order to persuade people, advertiser may use either narrative discourse or argumentarive one. In this article, the writer describes the results of both narrative and argumentative discourse study of health advertisement s in printed media. The result of study showa that there are two funstions of narrative discourse, the fist is to narrate and the second is to convince. Meanwhile, the functions of argumentative discourse are both to convince and to compare
