Master Program in Nursing Adult Nursing Concentration Department of Nursing Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro University March 2019 ABSTRACT Emy Kurniawati The Effects of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) on Comfort Level in Patients with Hepatic Cirrhosis xvi + 91 pages + 14 tables + 10 figures + 10 appendixes Patients with hepatic cirrhosis experience physical and psychospiritual problems that interfere in their comfort. Spiritual emotional freedom technique (SEFT) as an alternative strategy to overcome the physical and psychospiritual problems needs to be investigated to improve comfort in patients with hepatic cirrhosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of SEFT on comfort level in patients with hepatic cirrhosis. The design of this study was quasi-experimental, pre-post test with control group design. The samples were 70 hepatic cirrhosis patients recruited using consecutive sampling technique. The data were collected using General Comfort Questionnaire (GCQ). The collected data then were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed ranks test, Mann-Whitney U test, and t-test. The results showed that the comfort levels of patients in the intervention group increased after SEFT with a mean of 41.23 (pre test) to 52.89 (post test). The control group without SEFT, comfort levels did not increase with a mean of 41.09 (pre test) to 41.14 (post test). Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the mean value of the comfort levels between the intervention and control group with p-value = 0.001. This study concluded that the SEFT had a significant effect on the increased comfort of hepatic cirrhosis patients in the intervention group compared to the control group. This study recommend that SEFT is included in the nursing care plan for patients with problem of comfort.
