Abstract

By using historical method this research discussess Chinese moslem community in Kudus from 1961 until 1998. Kudus Chinese moslem existed since the 15th century. The Ling Sing who are known as Kyai Telingsing was artistic painter from Sung dynasty. He is acknowledged as the ancestor of Chinese moslem community in Kudus. After the 'Assimilation Statement' till the last of the 1970's the growth and assimilation process of Chinese moslem community in Kudus were taking pacle naturally. The growth of this community shows a significant increase when Mata Mustika as a Chinese moselm organization was established in 1983. This organization could gatheer Chinese moslem community in Kudus amounting at 78 people. By the end of 1988, the number of Chinese moslem increased to be more or less 200 members. Starting at 1991 until the end of 1998, the number of Chinese moslem in Kudus decreased in line with the decreasing performance of organizational activities of Mata Mustika. This phenomenon was caused by some factors such as mortality, migration, and returning to former religion. Key Words: community, Chinese moslem, assimilation
