Abstract

Some women with newly diagnosed of cervical cancer will experience depression due to treatment side effects, effects, and prognosis of cervical cancer. Education and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy intervention to improve coping mechanisms in decision making to improve the quality of life of cervical cancer patients. Research about education and CBT needs to be done to reduce depression in cervical cancer patients with newly diagnosed. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of education and CBT to reduce the level of depression in cervical cancer patients with newly diagnosed. The design of this study is quasi-experiment, pre-post with control group. The sampling technique in this study was conseutive sampling. The study sample was 38 cervical cancer in newly diagnosed of <6 months who had moderate and severe depression based on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) II for each intervention and control group. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is done in 5 meetings in 5 sessions. The statistical test results show differences of depression levels in the intervention group and the control group with p-value=0,000. Based on these results, it was concluded that education and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy had a significant effect on the decline in the depression rate of cervical cancer patients with newly diagnosed in the intervention group compared to the control group. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are effective in decreasing depression levels in cervical cancer patients with newly diagnosed. Keywords: depression, newly diagnosed, education and CBT, cervical cancer.
