Abstract
The objective of research was to examine accurately the potential quality of locally coal and to subsequent implement the preparing technology for improved ignition and clean combustion of coal. The main purpose of the research was focussed on the examination of the prospect enrichment and preparing process of local coal. These were expected to improve ignition rate and combustion powdered coal. The physical and chemical modification of coal before and after water-washing were analysed by XRF for chemical composition and XRD for minerals composition, whereas calorific heating value of coal was determined by Bomb calorimeter. As a result, it shows that the four different coal have predominant mineral phases namely kaolinite, quartz, jarosite, illite and pyrite in addition to glass. While the calorific values of that coal were measured in the range of 4000-6000 cal/gr and LOI were 97-99 %. The effect of water-washing did not increase significantly calorific value of coal. On the other hand, briket was made by mixing coal with polyethelene yielding that increased calorific value and improved combusting rate. From the research, it can be concluded that the local coal was catogorised as coal with low calorific value and therefore it needs to do further research on improving coal quality which can be competitive with imported coal.
