Abstract
The liquid waste of tofu industry contains high organic compounds (BOD of around 5,000 - 6,000 mg / lt) and is biodegradable, and can be used as an alternative energy source of a biogas producer. CH4 levels in biogas affect the heat value / heat produced, so it needs to be purified. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition of biogas and to determine the effect of variations in the size of activated carbon on increasing CH4 and CO2 removal in biogas of the Tahu Wismilak Industry Semarang. The research method is experimental, the sample is taken using an injection (syringe) which also functions as a storage for biogas samples. After that, the composition of the biogas sample before and after adsorption was measured using Gas Chromatography (GC). The results showed that the composition of CH4 and CO2 in biogas of Tahu Wismilak industry Semarang was 136587.21 ppm and 351767.10 ppm, respectively. The purification treatment with a 2 inch biogas purifying tube with various variations obtained the highest CH4 increase of 17.50% and the highest decrease in CO2 was 27.39%. While the 4-inch tube with various variations obtained the highest CH4 increase of 17.21% and the highest decrease in CO2 was 23.89%. Keywords: Biogas Purification, Activated Carbon, Adsorption
