Abstract
Lestari, Ayu. 2019. The Religiosity of the Character in the Debu-Debu Rakhine Novel by Zhaenal Fanani. (A Study of Literature Sociology). A thesis (S-1 Degree) Department of Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The supervisors: Prof. Dr. Mudjahirin T., MA and Khothibul Umam, S.S., M.Hum. The writer analyzes a novel entitled Debu-Debu Rakhine written by Zhaenal Fanani. This novel is published in 2014 by Laksana Publishing in Yogyakarta. The theoretical framework used in this study is the theory of novel structural, the theory of conflict, and the theory of religiosity. The methods used in this study are the library research to analyze the data and the structural and sociological method of literature in collecting the data. Meanwhile, the work steps used in this study are the data collection method, the data analysis method, and the result presentation method. The result of the analysis in this study is the analysis of the religiosity values of the character causes an interfaith conflict due to the differences in understanding and interpreting of the religiosity values used as the guidelines and the life goals in each religion. This study is a qualitative study about the religiosity of the character. The writer uses the intrinsic theme, plot, character and characterization, background (place, time, and social background), and message to analyze the novel and then relates it to the sociology of literature. Based on the results of the analysis are obtained the primary data sources in the form of Debu-Debu Rakhine novel and the secondary data in the form of references used by the writer to strengthen the data analysis. In this study found the interfaith conflict between the Buddhists and Muslims due to the heterogeneity of religion and culture. The example of conflicts in the novel is the existence of a social gap in the educational field between Muslims and Buddhists in Rakhine due to the difference of views. Buddhists think that the Buddhists children and teens are entitled to school because the Buddhists are the majority of people in Rakhine, therefore they have power and authority to determine who can attend school. On the other hand, Muslims think the education is a right for every citizen. However, that problem is ignored by the government and the leader of Buddhists, thereby the Muslims children cannot continue their education in their own country.
