Abstract
Journalists plays a major role in the media business. But both of capital interests and idealism interests in the capitalistic business shift the public interest and bring out the dominate of capital interests by media companies / capital owners, personal in structures in the media, resources, and even person journalist itself. This done with various interventions and deviant exploitation. This thesis aims to describe the practice journalist work in the capitalist media industry in Indonesia. Husserl's transcendental phenomenology method with Critical theory Political Economy of the Media used to describe the Semarang journalists work experience. The study shows, practices of intervention and exploitation in the journalist work in the capitalist media industry cause of alienation. The alienation domination occurring in the phases of the news production process and effects to: (1) alienation of journalist from news products, (2) alienation of journalist from private area (self/ potential), and (3) alienation of journalists from colleagues. Based on the research findings, that the alienation in Karl Marx's view was not fully applicable in the capitalist media industry because not only the owners who has taken advantage from the capital, but journalist workers also used products to capital benefited. The result of the study concluded that capitalism causes what Karl Marx said is alienation because it erodes the values of journalism's idealism by the values of materialism. But often these conditions naturalized in ambiguous journalist work attitudes (in false idealism and false consciousness). The alienations journalists are a dehumanization result in the capitalist media industry.
