Abstract
Almost 73% of AIDS patients had sleep disorders, the higher AIDS classification The higher sleep disorders. Sleep quality on AIDS patients could be fixed with relaxation techniques. Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is one of those technique. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of PMR on sleep quality in AIDS patient. This study is under quantitative research with quasi experimental pre-post test with control group design. The total sample of 82 AIDS patients were taken using consecutive sampling technique. Data collection was done using the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index). The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed ranks test, and the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed an increase in sleep quality, as indicated by the mean of total value of sleep quality disturbence from 13.56 (sleep quality disturbance) to 3.02( no sleep disturbance) (p=0,000). In addition, global sleep quality between the intervention group and the control group also differed significantly (p=0,000). Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that PMR can improve sleep quality of AIDS patients. The results of this study recommend that PMR be included in the nursing care plan of AIDS patients with decreasing of sleep quality as nursing problems.
