Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the number of workers, education level, gender, search channels and types of vacancies on frictional unemployment in Semarang Regency. Based on data from 2017-2018 job fair activities by the Semarang Regency Manpower and Transmigration Office, it is known that there is an excess supply of labor, where there are a number of job vacancies exceeding job seekers, which have an impact on the length of vacancies, resulting in frictional unemployment due to lack of absorption work. The data used are primary data and secondary data. Data collection uses questionnaires and interviews to 98 companies as samples, and uses the OLS (Ordinary Least Square) method. And an in-depth interview was conducted with the Human Resources Department (HRD), personnel, staff head of the work placement department at the Semarang Manpower and Transmigration Office. The results showed that there were significant effects between the number of workers, the level of education, the search channel and the types of vacancies on frictional unemployment. This happens because all of these variables are considered to be closely related to job vacancy requirements. However, gender has no effect on this study, although the results are in accordance with the theory and previous research, which shows a negative sign on the regression results.
