SIMBOL ALAM DALAM LIRIK LAGU BANDA NEIRA (Sebuah Kajian Semiotika)

A song lyric is composed from sequence of poetic words and interrelated between each elements. The words used by the songwriter are figurative words. Those are used as indirect expression which are caused by three things, namely displacing, distorting and creating of meaning. The use of figurative words in song lyric should be observed thoroughly in order to get and understand the whole meaning. This research discussed the indirect expression symbolized by natural sign and the theme of Banda Neira’s song lyrics. The purpose of this research is describing the indirect expression and knowing the theme of Banda Neira’s song lyrics. This research is a library research which used qualitative method with note-taking technique. The data population of this research are all the song lyrics of Banda Neira, and then seven songs are selected by random sampling technique. The result of this research showed that (1) the indirect expression of the data consist of simile, metaphor, personification, synecdoche, metonymy. Metaphor becomes the most dominant figurative word used in Banda Neira’s song lyrics, (2) theme that is used in the song lyric tell about doubt, sincerity, reconciliation, loss, solitude, hope, feeling touched which used natural sign either soil or sea, and also flora or fauna.
