Abstract
This paper discusses the principal differences between Tranformational Generative Grammar (TG) and Lexical-Functional Gramar (LFG), the grammar theories which have been developed by Chomsky (1957, 1965, 1972) and Bresnan (1982) respectively. The differences between the two grammar theories can be seen from their different approach in analyzing double-object constructions in English such as I gave Mary some apples and its variation I gave some apples to Mary.
