Abstract

ABSTRACT Apriyani. 2018. "Overview of the Emergence of Industrialization in Japan in Machiko novel by Nogami Yaeko through the Sociological literary Approach". Thesis Japanese Language and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University. Thesis Advisor Zaki Ainul Fadli, S.S., M.Hum. Machiko novel is a literature work written by Nogami Yaeko. The novel was written in the midst of the popularity of Japanese literature at the beginning of the 1931 period and then its first print appeared in 1952, telling of a beautiful girl who audited social science classes at Japanese universities. He was shocked by the poverty of peasants and laborers in his country, and faced with the emergence of social structure transformation, the emergence of factory establishment and shopping centers as a form of industrialization which began to develop since the Meiji restoration which had a negative impact. Namely, there is a transformation in the agricultural sector, there have been social changes in rural and urban communities, strikes and the rise of socialism. The purpose of this research is to reveal the picture of the emergence of industrialization in Japan which began from the Meiji period to the beginning of the Showa period. The method used in this study is the dialectical method (Understanding-Explanation). This study uses Ian Watt sociological literary approach which focuses on the reflection of society and the theory of social class according to Karl Marx. The results of this study are the emergence of industrialization in Japan divided into two aspects, namely social and economic aspects. The social aspect describes the transformation of feudal social structures into the bourgeois class and the birth of the proletariat. While on the economic aspects, it describes the agricultural sector as a supplier of industrial raw materials, the birth of land tax policy after the Meiji restoration along with the emergence of factory establishment and shopping centers.
