The film Rurouni Kenshin is a film tells of a Samurai who promised to not kill again and protect everyone from evil using sakabatou or an inverted edged sword. But to realize his desires, Kenshin gets a problem because with his promise does not want to kill can be a weakness to defeat the enemy. But because of Kenshin's persistence, his desire can be achieved and without killing the opponent, Kenshin can paralyze his opponent. The purpose of this thesis was to know Japanese traditional culture related to the film Rurouni Kenshin director by Keishi Ohtomo, released in 2012. The theory used in this thesis was the theory of understanding the film by Himawan Pratista to analyze the elements of film formation. Then the theory of the elements of universal culture proposed by Koentjaraningrat to analyze the culture contained in the film, such as 1) langauge 2) knowledge systems 3) social organizations 4) live equipment systems and technology 5) livelihood systems 6) religion 7) arts.
