MENGUAK TEKA-TEKI JIWO DI BALIK SURAT KALENG: KAJIAN SEMIOTIKA TERHADAP NOVEL PESAN TERAKHIR KARYA: WENNY SMART

Faculty of cultural science in the University of Diponegoro Semarang. Advisor I: Prof. Dr. Mudjahirin Thohir, M. A. and advisor II: Fajrul Falah, S. Hum,. M. Hum. The material object of this research is was the novel entitled Pesan Terakhir created by Wenny Smart. This research used qualitative method based on the structural and semiotics theory. The objective of this research was to express the intrinsic elements included theme, character and characterization, plot and setting. Besides that, the writer also used the theory of semiotics Charles Sanders Peirce in the form of a triangle of meaning representament, object, interpretant, and icon, index, and symbol. This is to reveal the Jiwo puzzle behind the canned letters contained in the novel Pesan Terakhir. The results of structural analysis in the novel Pesan Terakhir is have a scout theme and friendship. The caracters contained in the novel Pesan Terakhir are eight caracters consisting of one main caracters, seven additional figure. The plot of this novel were mixed plots. They were progressive plot based on the order of event and regressive plot happened many times. Whereas the setting of this novel was place, time, and social setting. The results of semiotics analysis in the novel Pesan Terakhir is representament in the form scout, object in the form of an can latters, and interpretant that is seventh friend of a true scout or true guide. Whereas, ikon in the novel Pesan Terakhir is in the form of a puzzle as five instructions form an tin latters. Index in the novel Pesan Terakhir is friendship index, confusion index, compactness index, mysterios index, and ambition index. Symbol in the novel Pesan Terakhir is campfire, light brown and dark brown colours, and tents. Keywords: Novel, Semiotics, Representament, Object, Interpretant
