Abstract

Auliani, Nur. 2018. “Lexicostatistics of Gorontalo, Bugis, Sumbawa and Bima languages”. Undergraduate Thesis (S1) Faculty of Humanities of Diponegoro University, Semarang. This study focused on Gorontalo, Bugis, Sumbawa, and Bima Languages with the aim of examining the kinship tree and the level of kinship based on lexicostatistics techniques and the estimated age of the language (time of separation) based on lexicostatistics calculations. The method used in this study is a method of sub-grouping languages using lexicostatistics techniques. Based on kinship tree, it is examined that the status of Gorontalo language, Bugis language, Sumbawa language, and Bima language are included in the stock category because they are in the percentage of 12-36%. The kinship average of four languages is 28%. The degree of kinship starting from the closest, namely Bugis and Sumbawa languages, that is 36%, Sumbawa language and Bima language is 34%, Bugis and Sumbawa languages id 25%, then Gorontalo and Bugis languages which have the same percentage of kinship with Gorontalo and Sumbawa languages at 18%, and the furthest degree of kinship is Gorontalo and Bima with a percentage of 17%. Bugis and Sumbawa languages are estimated splitting from the proto language between 462-212 BC (calculated in 2018), Sumbawa and Bima language are estimated beginning to separate from the proto language between 664-272 BC (calculated in 2018), Bugis and Bima language is estimated splitting from proto between 1354-998 BC (calculated in 2018), Gorontalo language and Bugis language as well as Gorontalo language and Sumbawa language are estimated splitting from proto between 2179-1689 BC (calculated in 2018), then Gorontalo and Bima language is estimated splitting from proto languages between 2321-1809 BC (calculated in 2018). A smaller year number is expected to indicate the age of the older language, therefore Bugis and Sumbawa languages are the oldest language pairs compared to five other language pairs. Keywords: lexicostatistics, kinship, time of separation, age of language
