Abdullah, M.A., II Laura Andri R.M., S.S., M.A. Tree Circus Novel by Andrea Hirata tells about the struggle of a male figure named Hobri in finding a job and realizing his dream. The process of realizing the dream is related to the friendship between Hobri and Taripol. The writer tries to research and reveal the meaning of social friendship formed by the two figures. The writer uses the structure theory of fiction and sociology of literature approach to analyzing the meaning of friendship. The theory of fictional structure is used to analyze the structure of the story. As for the structure of the story related to the writer’s research, the theme, character and characterization, flow and channeling, also background. Analysis of the meaning of friendship using Gottman and Parker's friendship function theory. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative method. The results of the analysis on the Tree Circus Novel by Andrea Hirata is the meaning of friendship between the figures of Hobri and Taripol. It can be seen based on the attitudes and behaviors of the two figures who provide mutual support either physically or ego, provide stimulation in developing their talents, and a close friendship. The willingness to sacrifice and give trust in a friendship can strengthen the relationship. Keywords: Novel, Structural, Sociology of Literature, The Meaning of friendship.
