Abstract

ABSTRACT Izina, Minalfa, 2018. “Unsur Magis dalam Ikon, Indeks, dan Simbol pada Cerita Hantu Jepang Miminashi Hoichi Karya Koizumi Yakumo”. Thesis, Department of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The Advisor: Budi Mulyadi, S.Pd, M.Hum. This research is conducted to find icon, index, and symbol that contain magical element in The Story of Miminashi Hoichi and to describe the meanings behind the sign. The method of data collection used in this thesis is library research. The data found in The Story of Miminashi Hoichi is analyzed using Pierce’s semiotic theory and Karsten’s magical thinking theory. Then, the data are presented with descriptive and objective ways in accordance with the theories that had been determined. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that in The Story of Miminashi Hoichi there are four icons, four indices, and three symbols which contain magical elements. There are magical elements based on ontological philosophy perspective, anthropological perspective, and psychological perspective in the icons, indices, and symbols found in The Story of Miminashi Hoichi.
