CARIYOSIPUN TIYANG NGANTEPI SATUNGGALING SEDYA (Suntingan Teks dan Analisis Sosiologi Sastra)

Mirya Angrrahini, M. Hum. This research studies about a script entitled Cariyosipun Tiyang Ngantepi Satunggaling Setya (CTNSS) authored by Prawirasudirja in Serat Piwulang manuscript. This script was printed publicly in 1917, until recently kept in several places, one of them is Ronggowarsito Museum in Semarang, Central Java. One element studied in this research is the relation between social reality in CTNSS and the real social condition when this script was being written. CTNSS is a prose written in Javanese both in letter and language as the handbook for students in Netherland-Indie era, earlier in XIX century. This study uses qualitative model based on two theories which are philology and sociology of literature. Philology theory is used to identify and to make edits of the scripts. The result of the edits is used as primary data to be analyzed using sociology of literature approach. This approach is selected because this research is based on the reality that literature is a cultural sounding and experience as well as a reflection toward socio-cultural reality. The analysis result of CTNSS uses philology approach which are script description and edits of CTNSS script along with its translation and transliteration. Meanwhile the result of CTNSS text analysis uses sociology of literature in which it is classified into four sub-chapters; a) author's context of socio-culture;b) society depiction in the script CTNSS; c) social conflict described through the characters in the script; and d) social function of CTNSS script for the society as the readers. The results of this analysis indicate that the text of the CTNSS is very relevant to the social conditions of the Javanese people in the Dutch East Indies era in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. This text is a justification for Hoggart's opinion, namely that literature at all levels is illuminated by the values set and the values applied.
