Abstract
ABSTRACT Timur, Mentari Diufuk. 2018. “Revitalization of the use of Uchinaguchi by it’s defender and Okinawan Government’. Thesis (bachelor degree), Japanese Language and Culture Study, Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University. Advisor Dr. M. Suryadi, M. Hum and Reny Wiyatasari, S.S, M.Hum. Revitalization is the process, the act of reviving or reenacting something of the disabling. The revitalization of Uchinaguchi’s use is a renewal of Okinawa’s old language, Shimakutuba Uchinaguchi dialect which is included in the category of endangered language by UNESCO in 2009. The purpose of this study was to determine revitalization of the speakers and the defender of Shimakutuba, by determine the division of age range of the speakers and the location range of the speakers and it’s defender, the efforts from government and private sector to maintaining Shimakutuba Uchinaguchi dialect, and the attitude of language shown by the speakers of Shimakuba Uchinaguchi dialect in Okinawa Japan. The results obtained from the research are; there are 3 categories from division of age range of the speakers Uchinaguchi dialect of Shimakutuba: they are Old Speakers, Young Speakers, and Beginner Speakers. 4 category of division of the location range of the speakers and Uchinaguchi dialect of Shimakutuba’s defender: Young Households, Old Households, City Households, and Coastal Areas Households. The efforts of the Okinawa Government and Private Sector in revitalizing Uchinaguchi dialect of Shimakutuba including: determination Shimakutuba Day, publishing calendar in Shimakutuba, Guidebook and Handbook to study Shimakutuba, broadcasting of television and radio shows in Shimakutuba, publishing newspaper in Shimakutuba and procurement of classes to study Shimakutuba. As well as the attitude of the language shown by the Uchinaguchi dialect of Shimakutuba, both the postive attitude and negative attitute towards the revitalization of Shimakutuba.
