Abstract

This study aims to explore the triple-role of fisherman wife, how are their contributions to its family economiy, and determine the correct strategies done by the wife in retaining the support their household economy in the coastal area of Tegalsari Village and Muarareja Village, Tegal city, Central Java. Fishermen's wife whose education level is low and has limited economic access is found in research area. Uncertainty of income provided by those who have a livelihood as a fisherman, making them to have important benefits to support the business.. Data analysis technique used in this research was mix-method (quantitative and qualitative approach). Sampling technique was done using purposive sampling as many as 100 respondents (fisherman's wife). In-depth interviews with the keyperson was also conducted. The results of this research are the fishermen wives in Tegalsari and Muarareja Village have multiple roles (in the role of production, reproduction, and managing community). They work to earn income, become housewives and active in social life. Contribution of fisherman wife in increasing family income by working in various business sector with average income Rp 625.370 per month with contribution to family income equal to 38,60% Several strategies to empower fishermen's wives with economic, socio-cultural and organizational approaches in the analysis was done using qualitative analysis tools atlas ti and can be one of the considerations in realizing the economic independence of fishermen families
