Abstract
Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable humans to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life. Life skills is important to stevedore to prevent sexual risk behaviour so the stevedore can avoid HIV/AIDS. The aim of this study is to identify the relationship between life skills and sexual risk behaviour. The study method was quantitative descriptive correlative with cross-sectional approach. The sampling method is convenience sampling with 96 participants. The data was collected using 2 questionnaires that has been tested by 2 experts and construct validity with the results of reliability are 0,762 (reliable) and 0,947 (very reliable). The results of univariate analysis showed that 51% of respondents have good life skills, while 52,1% of respondents does not have sexual risk behaviour. The result also showed that there was a positive correlation between life skills and sexual risk behaviour (p=0,001 ; r correlation -0,410), it means that person with good life skills will have less sexual risk behaviour. This study can be used as a suggestion for stevedore, stevedore’s cooperation, and health worker to enhance stevedore’s life skills to prevent sexual risk behaviour by give a program of prevention HIV/AIDS transmission based on life skills education.
