The behaviors of patients’ companions while waiting and providing care can be a source and a cause of nosocomial infection. The infection control behaviors of patients and their companions are influenced by the change agents. One of the efforts that staff nurses can do to change the behaviors of patients’ companion is to have clinical leadership. Service development is one of the clinical leadership domains which consists of the ability to ensure patient safety, critical evaluation, encouragement of improvement and innovation, and transformation. This study aimed to determine the effects of service development (improving service) on the nosocomial infection control behaviors of the patients’ companions. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. The samples were 61 people who were recruited using simple random sampling. The data were collected using observation sheets to assess the nosocomial infection control behaviors of patients’ companions. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis of Wilxocon test. The results showed that there were effects of service development (improving service) on the nosocomial infection control behaviors of patients’ companions with ρ-value = 0.001. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that service development (improving service) is carried out continuously in all service activities in the hospital, as it can improve the nosocomial infection control behaviors of the patients’ companions.
