Abstract
Self-efficacy of diabetic patients is patient's belief in conducting self-care management. Having DM and take of self care for a long time caused loss self confidence to further self care. Self efficacy is important to patient diabetes for self care so prevent complication and increase their quality of life. This study aimed to describe the self-efficacy in people with diabetes mellitus in conducting self care management at Pudakpayung Society Health Centre, Semarang. This was a quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. Data collection used The Diabetes Management Self Efficacy Scale (DMSES) questionnaire. Univariate analysis was performed to describe the frequency and percentage of each item studied. A total of 103 respondents participated in this study. The results showed that 56 people (54.4%) with diabetes mellitus have a good self-efficacy. Good self-efficacy found more common in women (56%), age 41- <60 years (56%), at all levels of last education except elementary school (49%), and long-suffering of diabetes mellitus disease for 1-5 years (54.2%). The conclusion of this study was more people have a good self-efficacy in performing self-care. Suggestions in this study are patients with Diabetes Mellitus need more active in seeking DM information, especially in physical activity or gymnastics related to the form of exercise, the length of time needed and the intensity of each week.
