Abstract

Iron requirement of teenage pregnant women will increased because of there is increasing of iron requirement in the two growth periods in the same time, which is growth during adolescence and fetal growth during pregnancy. The increasing of requirement can fulfilled with consumption of food that contains iron and also iron supplement consumption. The aim of this study was to know food consumption behavior that contains iron in teenage pregnant women. This study was a descriptive study with Cross-sectional method. This study was using purposive sampling technique with amount of samples were 110 respondents and data collected by questionnaires of Food Frequency Questionnaire and Food Recall 2 x 24 hours. The results of the study are foods that were frequently consumed are pure soybean tempe, biscuits, oranges, and iron supplements. Foods that were regularly consumed are spinach, kale, fresh fish, chicken, chicken eggs, and mango. Foods that were rarely consumed are cassava leaves, papaya leaves, long bean leaves, mustard greens, green beans, soybeans, mutton, beef, fresh shrimp, duck eggs, cheese, strawberries, tomatoes, Ambonese bananas, pineapple, and pregnant mother's milk. Iron adequacy in the first and the second days were including in the adequate category. This study was expected to be input and information for teenage pregnant women for more attention of food intake during pregnancy. Key words: behavior, iron consumption, teenage pregnant women.
