PENERAPAN KOMUNIKASI SBAR UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN PERAWAT DALAM BERKOMUNIKASI DENGAN DOKTER

Good communication between doctors and nurses is expected to be a means of communicating the important things, discussing, resolving something together and minimizing the barriers which are present in the patients’ treatment. The SBAR (Situation Background Assesment Recommendation) communication model helps nurses organize ways of thinking, organize information, facilitate in delivering some messages and discuss when communicating with the doctor. This study examined the effectiveness of SBAR communication to improve the nurses’ abilities in communicating with doctors. This study used quasi experimental research with design of pre-post test with control group. The samples were 18 nurses in the intervention group and 18 nurses in the control group taken by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through observations using check lists and analyzed using T-test. There was a significant improvement in the SBAR's communication ability after having the intervention with p value = 0.000. Thus, there was a significant improvement in the ability of nurses to communicate with the doctor after having intervention with p value 0.000. The study concluded that SBAR communication was able to improve the ability of nurses to communicate with doctors. It is hoped that further research involves the doctor directly therefore the implementation of SBAR communication can be achieved maximally not only for nurse but also the doctor.
