Hubungan antara Pola Diet dan Kualitas Hidup Penyandang Diabetes Melitus

Abstract

Prevalence of people with diabetes melitus in Indonesia increases each year. This is connected to the unbalanced food consumption. Non-compliance of a diet can cause complications and affect the quality of life of people with diabetes. The aim of this research was to identify the relationship between diet pattern and quality of life in people with diabetes mellitus. This was a descriptive correlational research. The sampling technique used consecutive sampling with a sample of 103 respondents. The data collected using 24 hours recall questionnaire which taken in 3 times analized with nutrisurvey application and SF-36 questionnaire consisting of 11 questions. Data analyzed using univariat and bivariat analyze. The result showed that the majority of respondents were women (71,8% ) with the majority of age > 45 years (91,3%), respondents had suffering from diabetes between 1-5 years and there were no complications. The majority of respondents (84.4%) had an unbalanced diet pattern and most of them (66%) had a good quality of life. The p value data analysis result showed that p value was 0,031 > α 0,05 so there was a relationship between diet pattern and the quality of life of people with diabetes mellitus. Thus it can be concluded that diet and quality of life are positively related, a better diet pattern will result a better quality of life. The result of this research recommends the people with diabetes to apply a good diet pattern to prevent complications and improve the quality of life.
