Gambaran Body Image pada Pasien Kanker Payudara Post Mastektomi di RSUD Tugurejo Semarang

Abstract

Breast cancer is non infectious disease that still remains as a serious problem in the world. One of medical treatment for breast cancer is a surgical procedure known as mastectomy. The treatment actually can affect the physical and/or psychological aspect especially body image. Negative perception of body image can lead to serious effect of mental health problem. The aim of the study was to know body image perception of breast cancer patients who had undergone mastectomy in Tugurejo Hospital. Methods of this study was descriptive survey with cross-sectional approach and involved 96 respondent who had undergone mastectomy. This study conduct using the validated the Body Image after Breast Cancer Questionnaire (BIBCQ). The result showed that 63.5% respondent in range of 41-60 years old all of respondent had undergone Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM). The body image analysis showed that 51.0% of respondent had negative body image and 49.0% of respondent had positive body image. Domain analysis showed that 53.1% respondent had the lowest score in Body Stigma and 68.8% respondent had the higest score in Arm Concern. The results of this study suggested to a nurse and other health care professions to provide individual counseling and support group to increase positive body image and social support of the patients.
