Abstract
ABSTRACT Kristanti, Magdalena. 2018. "Japan Proverbs Containing Odd Numbers Element (Semantics Studies)" A Thesis, Department of Japanese Language and Culture Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The Advisor S.I. Trahutami. S.S., M.Hum. This study analyzes the relations between the lexical and idiomatic meaning of Japanese proverb containing odd numbers element. This research using the data obtained from the proverb dictionaries and internet sites. The data collected using the references technique, by making the written sources as the data. Then, analyze the relations between the lexical and idiomatic meaning of proverb which containing odd numbers element as well as classifies based on its function. The analysis results were presented informally using the right words. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that all of the collected data, nine proverbs had their idiomatic meanings traced from their lexical meaning and three proverbs had their idiomatic meanings could not be traced from their lexical meaning. The Japanese proverbs containing odd number elements had three functions out of four functions in the Sekai Daihyakka Jitendictionary, which was offensive, empirical, and didactic.
