STRATEGI KOPING CAREGIVER LANSIA DEMENSIA DI PANTI WREDHA

Abstract

ABTRACT Dementia causes the changes of physicals, psychological, daily activities, social relationships and quality of life. The changes of elderly dementia cause a stressful situation for the caregiver, so it has risks of getting burden. The use of coping strategies with Problem Focused Coping (PFC) and Emotional Focused Coping (EFC) methods is needed to deal with the stressful situations so it can reduce the caregiver's burden. The purpose of this study was to find out the coping strategies of elderly dementia caregiver at wredha home. The research method used was descriptive quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used was total sampling with the total sample of 82 respondents. The data collection used Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WOC) questionnaire. The results of the study were analyzed using univariate analysis in the form of frequency distribution tables. The results showed that 52.4% of caregivers using PFC with the most frequently used domains were planful problems and 47.6% of caregivers using EFC with domains that were often used seeking social support, accepting responsibility, and postive reappraisal. Based on the research, it is expected that educational institutions can preparing students to be educator with deepening theory/concepts. For nurses are capable of providing guidance/counseling and tranining for caregivers.
