Abstract

Abstract Public consumption behavior has changed. Indonesian is the second largest community in consuming instant noodle in the world with 13,7 billion pack of instant noodles consumption in a year. Unwise consumption of instant noodles could lead the increasing of body weight and affects the body mass index (BMI). BMI reaches the category of obesity will impact other health problems both physical and mental problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the instant noodles consumption behavior with body mass index in Nursing Science Program Student Diponegoro University. This research was a quantitative with descriptive correlative design. The sampling technique used was proportional random sampling with a total sample of 225 respondents. Data retrieval using instant noodle consumption behavior questionnaire and height weight gauge. The instant noodle consumption behavior questionnaire validity and reliability test showed r values from 0.668 to 0.906 (r table = 0.3061) and the value of alpha of 0.955. These results indicate that there is no relation between the consumption behavior of instant noodles with body mass index in Nursing Science Program Student, Diponegoro University with p value of 0.701 and a correlation coefficient -0.026. The results showed that there was no relationship, but researchers still suggested to the Community (especially students) to have the wise consumption behavior of instant noodles.
