Thesis, Japanese Literature, Diponegoro University, Semarang. Advisor Fajria Noviana, S.S., M.Hum. This thesis is emphasizing on Indonesian folktale titled between Bawang Merah dan Bawang Putih and japanese folktale titled Komebukuro Awabukuro. This study is aiming to describe the similarities and differences between Bawang Merah dan Bawang Putih folktale and Komebukuro Awabukuro folktale. The method of this research is descriptive comparative method with literature review. In this study, the authors use the approach of naratologi structure by A.J.Greimas to analyze the story structure of the two folktales. The approach of naratologi structure by A.J.Greimas will produce an actant and functional scheme, in order to compare the folktales. The result of this research is from the folktales found the equation of narrative structure, besides that there are differences that make both folktales have their own characteristic.
