Abstract

ABSTRACT Nadea Fatmala Tilana, 2018. “Politeness Scale of Commissive Speech Acts in Anime Fune wo Amu Episodes 1-3” A Thesis of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University, Semarang. Consultant: Maharani Patria Ratna, S.S., M.Hum. This research discusses the politeness scale of the commissive speech acts found in the anime Fune wo Amu episodes 1-3. The purpose of this study was to describe the meaning and scale of politeness in commissives speech that appeared in the anime. This research is included in pragmatic studies using the theories of commissive speech acts belong to Paina, Ibrahim, and Austin. In addition, this study also uses the Leech politeness scale theory. There are 20 commissive speech acts data found in the data source. Based on the research that has been done, the meaning of the commissive speech which is found in the Fune wo Amu anime episode 1-3, including: promises (10 data), intentions (8 data), and offers (2 data). While the scale which are used including: cost-benefit scale, authority scale, optionally scale, indirectness scale, and social distance scale. Keywords: commissives, politeness scale, pragmatics
