Abstract

This research aims to analyze the intensity of intra-industry trade and the effect of economies of scale, market structure, product differentiation, FDI and GDP per capita on intra-industry trade in the manufacturing sector between Indonesia and seven of Asia's largest trading partners (Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Japan and South Korea) from 2000 – 2016. Index of intra-industry trade that is G-L index is used to know the intensity of trade intra-industry in manufacturing sector. To know the determinants of intra-industry trade is used panel data estimation model. The fixed effect model was chosen as the best model and used to know the effect of independent variable to intra-industry trade in manufacturing sector. The results show that trade between Indonesia and seven of Asia's biggest trading partners has not been said to be an intra-industry trade. There are only two out of seven sample countries that are categorized as intra-industry. The estimation result shows economies of scale, product differentiation, FDI has a significant positive effect on intra-industry trade, GDP per capita has a significant negative effect on intra-industry trade, while market structure has positive effect on insignificant to intra-industry trade.
