Abstract

Sari, Eva Yunita. 2018. “Variant Speech of Vegetable Seller in Bandungan Tourism Market to the social strata of the seller”. Thesis (S1) Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University. Instructor (1) Drs. Hendarto Supatra, S.U., M.Th (2) Drs. Ary Setyadi, M.S. Bandungan Tourism Market is a touris market which is visited by tourist from various regions. The diversity of the buyers also appear in the language that they are used in daily speech. Speech event that occur between the seller and the buyer causing a language contact and language variations. This research aims to describe the variant speech form of vegetable seller and explaining the factors behind the variant speech form of vegetable seller in Bandungan Tourism Market to the social strata of the seller. The data of this research are in the form of spoken speech of the vegetable seller. The stage of data collection is conducted by observation methode and interview. Observation methode can be done using tapping technique, uninvolved conversation observation technique, recording technique, and notes technique. Interview method is conducted by unstructured interview technique. The data analysis stage is conducted by sociolinguistic approach using Dell Hymes SPEAKING theory with matching method. The presentation stage of the analysis result using informal method with ordinary words and accompanied by speech event to gain understanding. The analysis result and discussion in this research found that the variant speech form of the vegetable seller in Bandungan Tourism Market can be classified as the variety languages of vegetables sellers in Bandungan Tourism Market which includes code switching and code mixing, Indonesian lingual variant that includes speech form,intonation, beheading/incomplete, greetings, and jokes, other than that, there is also lingual variant of Javanese that includes the level of ngoko, madya, and krama. Based on analysis by using SPEAKING theory, the factors that affecting the pattern of seller’s speech include four component of speech, that are the baground place and enviroment, speech participants, age, and social status.
